Detroit nonprofit opens new restaurant in Midtown: Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen

Detroit, MI — A Detroit nonprofit has introduced a new concept to the Midtown scene housed in the former Vigilante Kitchen/Smith & Co. establishment on Seldon Street. Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen is the latest concept development announced by Soil2Service, with a focus on community and cuisine.

Epiphany is being led by Soil2Service Executive Director Jeremy Abbey and Executive Director of Business Development John Piazza. According to the press release for the opening announcement, the restaurant is expanding upon a program at the Detroit Institute of Gastronomy. The school offers cooking classes that are open to the public, and it also hosts local Chefs’ Association chapter meetings.

“Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen, in collaboration with the Detroit Institute of Gastronomy, is expanding a distinctive hybrid culinary education model that prepares apprentices for American Culinary Federation Certification and U.S. Department of Labor credentials,” said John Piazza, Executive Director of Business Development, Soil2Service. “Our program, aimed at honing skills and enhancing Detroit’s culinary scene, serves as the hub for DIG’s nationally recognized apprenticeship program, contributing to the next generation of culinary talent here in Detroit.”

Soil2Service was founded in Detroit in 2017. The nonprofit works to provide education, awareness, and experiences designed to enhance individuals and communities livelihoods while supporting a sustainable food system. The group supports and operates the Detroit Institute of Gastronomy, which provides educational experiences through immersive chef-driven apprenticeship programs.

The new eatery’s menu includes items like chicken fried quail, Bakkafrost Scottish Salmon, a Mushroom and Goat Cheese Salad (seen below), Roasted-Onion IPA Dip, and a Sticky Bread Pudding.

The restaurant will launch its Sunday brunch service this Sunday, May 12th, on Mother’s Day. Every Sunday following, brunch hours will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with a specialized menu offering things like Shirred Eggs, Trio of Scones, Bread Pudding French Toast, and more.

While it is unfortunate to see former concepts fall off, it’s good that this space is still being utilized to enhance Midtown’s food scene. One of the cool aspects of Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen is that its beverage program will feature a selection of Nain Rouge Brewery beers, which are brewed right next door at the Nain Rouge Brewery.

Epiphany – Nain Rouge Kitchen is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. For more information on the restaurant, click here.
