Canton, MI — For someone who rarely eats fast food, I can’t wait to enjoy those heavenly chicken tenders and that divine Cane’s sauce once again.
It has been several years since I last enjoyed a Combo Box from Raising Cane’s, ever since I left Phoenix when I occasionally visited the location in Uptown Phoenix near my previous news station. But now, the chicken finger concept has expanded operations to Metro Detroit with its first location in Canton! The new Cane’s location opened on Tuesday along Ford Road just east of Sheldon to sprawling lines of foot and drive-thru traffic throughout the day from open to close.
I was wise enough to avoid the opening-day madness. My coworker and buddy Ahmad happens to live in Canton and texted me late that morning that he was told by police officers helping manage the traffic flow that it was going to be at least a 90-minute wait to get in to place an order! I’ve witnessed similar instances of fast food chains debuting in areas/states where they weren’t before, and I immediately had flashbacks to when White Castle first opened a location in Scottsdale, and wait times were up to three hours.
The hype and excitement make sense; after all, unless you’ve lived or traveled around the South, West, or East Coasts, it’s unlikely you’ve encountered a Raising Cane’s or have the familiarity with the chicken finger concept. It’s pretty straightforward; you select from an array of combos, including a desired number of chicken fingers, Cane’s sauce, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, and a drink. There’s also a sandwich combo featuring three chicken fingers, lettuce, and Cane’s sauce between two toasted buns. You can also order these items as individual items or extras.
Since I’ve had the luxury of enjoying Raising Cane’s in the past, I can be patient and wait a bit for the hype and hoopla to die down. Plus, as a true foodie, I’m more excited for everyone else around Metro Detroit who has yet to experience Raising Cane’s to get in and try those tenders! So stay tuned. My goal is to pop in for an order, hopefully, some day next week before work, with hopes of catching a lull in traffic. Or I might make a sporadic attempt later this week or weekend!
The best part about Raising Cane’s and it being a fast food joint is that it’s open seven days a week from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m., except for Sundays when it closes earlier at 7 p.m. So, if you’re like me and waiting for lines to taper off, you’ll have a wide window of opportunities ahead! Also please be considerate of the staff, as I’m sure they’ll be exhausted after keeping up with the constant flow of orders and people for several days. So, in the name of all things food, get ready for an upcoming chicken finger adventure!
